Although you might not realise it, your bathroom can be a highly dangerous place. Bathroom suites and en suite bathrooms require certain safety issues to be taken care of in order for you to reduce the risks to yourself and your family.

The following five points include some important steps you can take to keep your bathroom safe:

1. Don't use electrical appliances in bathroom suites. Most people don't need telling this, but for many others, it is just all too tempting to have an electric heater in the bathroom or to have a TV set up while you have a relaxing in the bath.

The fact is however that electrical items pose a huge health risk. Your bathroom has many sources of water and although you will try to prevent water from going too near the devices, you can't always control it. The only electrical appliances you should have in your bathroom are ones designed for bathroom use such as razors or toothbrushes.

2. Keep the bathroom floor dry. Possibly the most common accident in the house is slipping on a wet floor. Bathroom floors can get very slippery, so you should ensure you keep them dry at all times.

3. Place handle-bars near the most hazardous areas. Putting a metal hand rail near to the sink, toilet or bath would be beneficial in case the floor ends up being slippery and causes a slip onto a hard floor.

4. Be careful about overly hot water. Make sure your water doesn't get so hot that it ends up burning you. Many people scald themselves on overly-hot tap water, an injury that can cause long-term injury and pain.

5. Keep your bathroom cleaning products in a safe place. This is especially vital if you have younger children, since some of these products can be highly dangerous.
